Information Systems Specialist - Admissions

Job description

The Roanoke College Office of Admissions seeks an Information Systems Specialist to serve as a primary administrator of the Slate Customer Relationship Management system used the recruitment and admission of prospective students.  The Information Systems Specialist will identify creative solutions and incorporate new processes to improve workflows, production, security, and the efficiency of our systems; develop reports for admission planning and analysis; and ensure the integrity of admission data and systems. The position works internally with other offices, including Information Technology, Financial Aid and the Registrar’s Office. Externally, this position works with third-party vendors such as the Common Application, College Board, and ACT to transfer and integrate data resources between platforms and systems.

The successful candidate will serve as our functional expert on the Slate system, leveraging the capabilities of the system to support both efficient internal business processes and a compelling experience for external users, including prospective students, parents, counselors as they interact with the admission office.

Examples of duties include:

  • Monitor the exchange of data with the CRM and resolve any errors/issues
  • Act as a liaison between admissions and IT and between admissions and the registrar’s office
  • Build CRM import templates and export queries
  • Manage the contact consolidation/merge process.
  • Create and maintain reports/queries to assess performance, productivity, and efficiencies - SQL may be required
  • Maintain and configure the operational aspects of the CRM to increase work-flow efficiency and/or the user experience.
  • Create training materials for use of Slate and assist with training sessions on the various technologies associated with admissions.
  • Responsible for processing supplemental application documents
  • Serves as a member of the Admissions support staff team
  • Serve on campus-wide information technology committees, as needed

    • Bachelor’s degree is required.
    • Demonstrated experience with a CRM and relational databases; Slate experience is highly desirable
    • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XSLT, and SQL, or demonstrated ability to learn
    • Ability to access, manage, and analyze data using different databases and file formats
    • Knowledge in creating data filters and data mining
    • Demonstrated analytical thinking and excellent customer service and systems aptitude
    • A high level of organization, attention to detail and excellent time management skills
    • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and adapt to changing priorities
    • Ability to work successfully as part of a team in a fast-paced office environment
    • Knowledge of college admission and student recruitment is desirable
    • Ability to develop strong working relationships with various constituencies
    • Ability to demonstrate excellent, effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
